Communicating with Spanish-Speaking Patients
The North Carolina Board of Pharmacy has two tools available to assist pharmacists and pharmacy technicians in communicating with Spanish-speaking patients:
- Essential Spanish for Pharmacists by Glenn R. Kisch
This pocket-sized booklet includes words and phrases commonly used in pharmacy. With phonetic pronunciations provided, it is specifically designed to help English-speaking pharmacists communicate with their Spanish-speaking patients. Copies of the booklet can be purchased through the NC Board of Pharmacy for $13.00. (Price includes tax and shipping.)
To order, simply send in your check or money order, payable to NCBOP to:

- A sign for your pharmacy intended to let Spanish-speaking patients know that they can obtain their prescription medication instructions in Spanish. The sign instructs customers (in Spanish) to point to the sign if they would like their prescription medication instructions to be printed in Spanish so that the pharamacist will do so. Many pharmacies have this capability and we encourage those that do to display this sign.
Download a copy of the sign here at no charge;
or purchase a full color, easel-type 8-1/2" x 11" sign for your pharmacy by sending in a check or money order for $3.20 (per sign) to the address above.
