The North Carolina Board of Pharmacy consists of six Board Members, (five actively licensed pharmacists and one public member). Pharmacist members of the Board are elected from five geographic areas of the state and the public member is appointed and commissioned by the Governor. Board members serve five-year terms and may serve no more than two consecutive five-year terms. Eligible voters include all pharmacists actively licensed and residing in North Carolina on October 31 of the year the election begins. N.C.G.S. § 90-85.7.

North Carolina Board of Pharmacy members and staff congratulate Ashley Duggins of Asheboro, NC, for being elected by North Carolina pharmacists for a second term as the member from the Central District, and Wallace Nelson of Hertford, NC, for being elected to a second term as the member from the Northeastern District.
The Board certified the election results at its March 11, 2025 meeting. A total of 2,120 votes were cast between November 1, 2024 and March 1, 2025. Detailed results may be found here. Once commissioned by Governor Josh Stein, Dr. Duggins and Mr. Nelson will begin their second five-year terms on May 1, 2025.
The Board expresses its heartfelt appreciation to the other candidates for Board membership: Marshal Carter, Andrew Froy, LaQuoia Johnson, Vy Nguyen, Aaron Shaver, Ethan Smith, and Noble Thomas from the Central District; and Jay Barefoot, Kelsey Carter, Michael Hoffler, Lindsey Hedgepeth Kennedy, Jeff Reichard, and Irv Trust from the Northeastern District. Their commitment to public service is evident by their candidacy and the showing of support that each garnered during the election.
The next Board election will begin on November 1, 2025 and will be for the Southeastern district position, presently held by Robert (Joey) McLaughlin. The winner of this election will begin their term on May 1, 2026. This district includes Beaufort, Bladen, Brunswick, Carteret, Columbus, Craven, Cumberland, Duplin, Greene, Harnett, Hoke, Johnston, Jones, Lenoir, New Hanover, Onslow, Pamlico, Pender, Pitt, Robeson, Sampson, Scotland, and Wayne Counties.
Board staff will hold a candidate interest forum this summer in the Southeastern district and will communicate those details to North Carolina pharmacists in the coming months.
