This year’s Summit will feature experts in the field of compounding discussing both sterile and non-sterile compounding practices.
The registration fee is $285.
In-person attendance is encouraged, but we will offer a virtual option for those unable to travel to Chapel Hill.

Kenneth Cleveland, M.D. is a native of Alabama and a 1995 graduate of the University of Alabama School of Medicine. He completed his residency at the University of Mississippi School of Medicine finishing as Chief Surgical Resident in 2001. He has since practiced medicine in the State of Mississippi in both surgical and administrative capacities.
In February of 2018 the twelve-member Board of Medical Licensure selected Dr Cleveland to become their Executive Director. Since that time, he has accepted a position as Commissioner of the Interstate Medical Licensure Compact, where he currently serves as Treasurer.
He has been recognized for his work in regulatory medicine by the FDA as well as the Federation of State Medical Boards. Dr. Cleveland’s background brings a wealth of knowledge and experience in legislative proceedings, business management and medicine.
Edmund J. Elder, Jr., Ph.D., R.Ph., is Emeritus Research Services Director from the School of Pharmacy at the University of Wisconsin-Madison (UW). He previously served as Director of the Zeeh Pharmaceutical Experiment Station, providing pharmaceutical and biopharmaceutical R&D support and educational programs for researchers, both on and off campus, and Administrative Director of the Lachman Institute for Pharmaceutical Development integrating biopharmaceutical development activities for 4 research centers plus the Station. Ed also served in a campus scientific advisory role for FDA interactions and regulatory compliance. Dr. Elder maintains graduate teaching and continuing education activities in the Division of Pharmacy Professional Development and through the UW School of Medicine and Public Health, MS in Biotechnology program.
Ed received his B.S. in Pharmacy and Ph.D. in Pharmaceutical Sciences from the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston, SC. Prior to his over eighteen-year career at UW, he worked for over sixteen years in the pharmaceutical and drug delivery industry. His experience covers pre-formulation, formulation development, technology transfer, pre-approval inspections, manufacturing support, drug delivery technology development, and associated physiochemical and analytical testing.
Dr. Elder is a member of the 2020-2025 Compounding Expert Committee at the United States Pharmacopeia (USP) having also served for the previous two review cycles. Ed is a volunteer raiser/trainer with OccuPaws Guide Dog Association and also supports youth development through the Scouting America program in Glacier’s Edge Council.
Gigi Davidson is the former Director of Clinical Pharmacy at the NC State University College of Veterinary Medicine where she practiced veterinary pharmacy for 35 years. Ms. Davidson received a pharmacy degree from UNC Chapel Hill in 1983 and earned Diplomate status in the International College of Veterinary Pharmacy in 2001. She was inducted into the Phi Zeta Honor Society in 2006 as an honorary member for distinguished advancement of veterinary science. Gigi is a past President of the Society of Veterinary Hospital Pharmacists and of the American College of Veterinary Pharmacists. Ms. Davidson is the ACVP delegate to the American Pharmacists Association House of Delegates where she has championed the cause for recognition of animals as patients and for veterinary pharmacy education. Ms. Davidson was the Chair of the United States Pharmacopeia Compounding Expert Committee from 2010-2020 and continues to serve as a member on that committee. Gigi is the recipient of USP’s Beal Award when in 2015 she became the first female and first veterinary recipient of that award. She has many publications in peer-reviewed scientific journals, and her primary area of research interest is stability, safety, and efficacy of compounded therapies in non-human species. Her research interests in retirement include drug disposition in honey bees and pharmacological action of plant pollens and nectars on honey bee colonies.
Wendy Hagwood was born and raised just inland of Daytona Beach and received her undergraduate degree in Nutrition from the University of Florida. She moved to NC to attend Campbell University and earned her PharmD in 2005. Wendy now resides in the Apex spending her days where she relishes being a problem solver, engineering formulations on a daily basis, and helping patients with their often-complex problems in coordination with prescribers. She's spent the last few years working with ACHC, a national compounding accreditation company, ensuring higher standards for the best patient experience. She spends her free time with her boyfriend Jim, their collective 3 teens, and their various pets, currently a sheepadoodle named Dexter, a large Carpet Python named Rocky, and a Ball Python named Sandii. On weekends you can usually find her camping, hiking, paddle-boarding, playing board games, and sewing.
Brenda Jensen CPhT, CNMT, MBA owns Compounding Consultants, LLC located in Sioux Falls, SD. Brenda has helped hundreds of compounding facilities improve compounding quality and safety by assisting with compliance and training. Brenda is involved with numerous pharmacy-related organizations and has held multiple leadership positions within these organizations. She was previously the coordinator for the APhA Compounding SIG and served on the Board of Directors for the International Academy of Compounding Pharmacists and the Pharmacy Compounding Foundation. She is currently Chairman of the Board for the American College of Veterinary Pharmacists, serves on the Board of Directors for the American College of Apothecaries Research and Education Foundation, is a peer reviewer for Pharmacy Technician’s Letter, and a member of the APhA House of Delegates. Brenda began volunteering for USP in 2013 and currently chairs the Compounding Expert Committee.
Betty Jones is currently the Compliance Senior Manager, Accreditation and Inspection Programs with the National Association of Boards of Pharmacy (NABP). In 1993, she graduated from Ohio Northern University with a Bachelor’s degree in Pharmacy. Over the next 11 years, she worked in various hospital pharmacy settings with her highest position obtained as a Director of Pharmacy. In 2004, she joined the State of Ohio Board of Pharmacy as a Compliance Specialist. In that role, she conducted hundreds of inspections of businesses that manufactured, purchased, or sold prescription drugs including pharmacies, hospitals, nursing homes, physician practices, and wholesale distributors; conducted administrative and criminal investigations involving prescription drugs; and provided continuing education and training to healthcare professionals and law enforcement on compliance with drug laws/rules, drug diversion trends, and use of Ohio’s prescription monitoring program. In her seven years with NABP, she works with the accreditation and inspection programs evaluating compliance with program standards for pharmacy and distributor practices. Her areas of focus include prescription drug supply chain, compliance with laws/rules, practice of pharmacy, and sterile compounded preparations.
Phyllis Polk Johnson, DNP, RN, FNP-BC, is the CEO/Executive Director of the Mississippi Board of Nursing. She brings 40 years of experience in nursing and health care leadership to her role. Board certified as a Family Nurse Practitioner, she has held numerous clinical and managerial responsibilities. Located in Ridgeland, Mississippi, the Board of Nursing was selected by the Mississippi Business Journal in 2021 as one of the “Best Places to Work in Mississippi.” Phyllis currently serves as the President of the National Council of State Boards of Nursing (NCSBN). NCSBN empowers and supports nursing regulators in their mandate to protect the public. The nursing regulatory bodies that comprise the NCSBN protect the public’s health and welfare by assuring that safe and competent nursing care is provided by licensed nurses. Additionally, she received the Madison County Economic Development Authority 2021 Visionary Leadership Award in October 2021.
A native of Carthage, Mississippi, Phyllis attended South Leake High School in Walnut Grove, Mississippi where she graduated as Salutatorian of her class. She received her BSN (Cum Laude) and MSN degrees from the Mississippi University for Women, Columbus, Mississippi. Additional studies were completed at Jackson State University where she received her MS degree in Biology with an emphasis in Genetics and Molecular Biology. A lifelong learner, Phyllis obtained her Doctor of Nursing Practice from Alcorn State University.
Phyllis is a member of several professional organizations, including the Mississippi Association of Nurse Practitioners, Mississippi Nurses Association, American Nurses Association, American Association of Nurse Practitioners, and Sigma Theta Tau International Nursing Honor Society. She currently serves on the Board of Directors of the National Council of State Boards of Nursing (NCSBN), the American Red Cross Mississippi Region Southwest Chapter, the Madison County Business League & Foundation, and the Mississippi University for Women Foundation. In July 2018, she was selected as one of the 50 Leading Business Women in the state of Mississippi by the Mississippi Business Journal. This culminated in her being selected as the 2019 Mississippi Business Journal Business Woman of the Year. Appointed to the Governor’s Opioid and Heroin Drug Task Force in December 2016, Phyllis was instrumental in developing rules and regulations at the Board pertaining to the prescribing practices of Advanced Practice Nurses. Other appointments include the Governor’s COVID-19 Advisory Board, the NCSBN Nurse Licensure Compact Executive Committee, the Jackson State University COVID-19 Advisory Board, the Mississippi Board of Medical Licensure’s Advisory Committee for Physician Assistants and the Advisory Committee for the Project Change Initiative of My Brother’s Keeper. In 2013, Phyllis retired from the United States Navy Reserves at the rank of Commander. She is a proud member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., where she is active in the Jackson Mississippi Alumnae Chapter.

His approach has been characterized by a steadfast commitment to patient safety and a collaborative spirit, working alongside teams to fortify the integrity of compounding processes. This dedication has been the cornerstone of his recent professional journey, reflecting a deep-seated value for healthcare excellence.
Patricia Kienle is the Director of Accreditation and Medication Safety for Cardinal Health. She received her pharmacy degree from the Philadelphia College of Pharmacy and Science and a Masters in Public Administration from Marywood University in Scranton, Pennsylvania. She is Board Certified as a Sterile Compounding Pharmacist, completed an Executive Fellowship in Patient Safety from Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, Virginia, and is an Adjunct Clinical Faculty member at Wilkes University in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania.
She served on the Board of Directors of the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists and as President of the Pennsylvania Society of Hospital Pharmacists. She is a Fellow of ASHP, was named Pharmacist of the Year by PSHP, the recipient of the Distinguished Achievement Award in Hospital and Institutional Practice from the American Pharmaceutical Association Academy of Pharmacy Practice and Management, the Distinguished Leadership Award from ASHP, the ASHP John W. Webb Lecture Award, the Thomas S. Foster Award from the United States Pharmacopeia, the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Institute for Safe Medication Practices, and ASHP Harvey A.K. Whitney Lecture Award. She has served on the Pharmacotherapy Specialty Council of the Board of Pharmacy Specialties, the Pennsylvania Patient Safety Authority, the Hospital Professional and Technical Advisory Committee of The Joint Commission, and on the Board of Governors of the National Patient Safety Foundation. She is a current member of the USP Compounding Expert Committee.
Patti is the author of The Chapter <795> Answer Book, The Chapter <797> Answer Book, The Chapter <800> Answer Book, and co-author of Meeting Accreditation Standards: A Pharmacy Preparation Guide.
With over 600 invited presentations and 100 publications, she has special interests in promoting medication safety, compounding sterile preparations, accreditation, and regulatory issues.
Susan is the Executive Director for the MS Board of Pharmacy. She brings 39 years of experience in various pharmacy practices, with a concentration on retail, as well as nine and a half years of experience as a compliance agent where she conducted routine inspections and investigations, before becoming the Executive Director of the Board in 2019. Her experience includes working with the Drug Enforcement Agency, the Federal Drug Administration, the Mississippi Bureau of Narcotics, the Mississippi State Board of Medical Licensure, the Mississippi Board of Nursing, other state and federal agencies and schools, along with MS congressmen/women, representatives, and senators. Susan has been on various committees with the National Association of Boards of Pharmacy to include working on the MS pharmacy law exam, the Multistate Pharmacy Jurisprudence Examination Review Committee, task force on working conditions, task force on the Universal Pharmacy Jurisprudence Exam, and the Advisory Committee on Examinations. She has served as the President of the MS chapter of the National Association of Drug Diversion Investigators for the past 3 years. Susan has presented on a variety of pharmacy issues at the state, regional, and national level.
Susan received her associate degree from Copiah Lincoln Community College before graduating from the University of Mississippi’s School of Pharmacy in 1985.
She is a Mississippi native that currently resides in Brandon with her husband, David, who is also a pharmacist. They have two children and seven grandchildren.
