Danielle Andreasen

Danielle Andreasen Central 2019

I graduated pharmacy school with my PharmD in 2009 from Ohio Northern University in Ada, OH. I have proudly served the patients of North Carolina as a pharmacist since relocating to the Charlotte area in 2009. I have lived in Mecklenburg County since moving and worked as a pharmacist for several years and later worked as a field manager for CVS Health for 7 years. I have a passion for community pharmacy and the ability to care for our patients. I have lead an exemplary team of pharmacists and technicians over the years in over 50 different locations. I am now in a talent development position and support the majority of the state.

I feel that my current position within CVS Health and community pharmacy allows me the ability to influence many leaders in our field to care for the patients in the state of North Carolina. I believe that I can listen to all pharmacists and support them to be better practitioners. I also believe that I can be an advocate for the public to help ensure the health and safety of our patients.

I believe I am the candidate that currently possesses the ability and passion to represent our state appropriately. I look forward to the opportunity to serve pharmacists and patients as a member of the North Carolina Board of Pharmacy in this place I call home. Thank you for your consideration and support.

Marshal Carter

Marshal Carter Central 2019

Hi!  My name is Marshal Carter and I am a graduate of Campbell University College of Pharmacy & Health Sciences. I am licensed to practice pharmacy in North Carolina, New York and New Jersey, and have had the great pleasure to practice in all three states to see how the boards function to protect the public.  Before graduating from pharmacy school, I started a nonprofit called RxRescue, Inc. that assists patients who cannot afford their medications.  Having earned the United States Public Health Service Award, I have used my knowledge of public health to continue to learn how to more effectively reach the underserved populations.

I believe that patients are best served by a team of healthcare professionals.  I began a consulting service upon graduation where I have worked with chiropractors, nutritionists, nurses, and doctors to consult with them on how to best serve their patients.  My role is to review lab values and make recommendations from a pharmacist’s perspective.  I have been able to reduce the pill burden during many of my consultations as well as identify nutritional deficiencies that have been neglected or undiagnosed.  The consulting service affords me the distinct opportunity to learn from other practitioners as well as educate them on how a pharmacist is a vital link in the health care continuum.  I have also had the honor to coauthor continuing education utilized by NC Chiropractors.

Having worked at an Independent Pharmacy in Wake Forest during and after pharmacy school, I understand the challenges faced by independent pharmacies and how they work very hard to maintain their much needed place in their communities.  From 2015-2017, I worked in New York as the Pharmacy Manager for Target who was then purchased by CVS Health.  I served as the district immunization captain and traveled to pharmacies in three states to supervise their immunization activities.  Upon moving back to North Carolina in 2017, I have served 30+ Target channel pharmacies, from Asheville to Raleigh, as a floater.  Wanting to advance my education further, I took the BPS exam and became credentialed as a Board Certified Geriatric Pharmacist in early 2019.  More recently, I was promoted to manager at CVS in Target in Charlotte, and appointed the district’s immunization ambassador for the 2019-20 flu season.

The experiences I have had since graduation have all contributed to my understanding of the profession of pharmacy as well as the board’s role in protecting the public.  I am constantly humbled by the outpouring of support I have received from practitioners much smarter than me, the communities in which I serve, and the organizations I have joined that make me a better pharmacist.  If elected, I promise to keep the public’s interest my primary objective, as well as learn as much as I can in order to advance the practice of pharmacy in North Carolina.

Marshal Carter, PharmD, MS, AEMT, BCGP

Ashley Duggins

Ashley Duggins Central 2019

My name is Ashley Duggins and I am running for the Central District seat on the North Carolina Board of Pharmacy.  I have served on the Board since June of 2018 when I was selected to fill the unexpired term of the late Stan Haywood. It has been a privilege to serve in this capacity and thus honor Mr. Haywood’s life of service to pharmacists in North Carolina. Currently I serve as Vice President of the Board. Given the experience I have gained stepping into this role, it is now my desire to run for this seat and serve a full second term.

I graduated with my Doctorate of Pharmacy from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 2002.  After graduation I worked first as a staff pharmacist for Eckerd Drug, and then moved to Prevo Drug where I served over the next 16 years as both clinical pharmacy manager and pharmacy manager.  I am currently the owner and pharmacy manager for Prevo Drug and Prevo Wellness in Asheboro, NC. I am also pharmacy manager for the Hospice House of Randolph County and have served in this position for 7 years.  I have 10 years’ experience in long term and assisted living care.

I am a member of the North Carolina Association of Pharmacists (NCAP), the National Community Pharmacists Association (NCPA), and the National Association of Boards of Pharmacy (NABP). Locally, I serve as a member of the Randolph County Opioid Collaborative Committee and also the Randolph County Public Health’s Opioid Committee.

Since being named to the NCBOP, I have served in various capacities.  I served on the Pain Management in End of Life Care Committee alongside members from the nursing and medical boards, and on the Pharmacy Technician Examination Committee.  I represented the Board of Pharmacy at the FDA for the hearing on Cannabis-Derived products.  I will also be a part of our Telepharmacy Committee as we navigate this new arena of pharmacy.  I am most excited and proud about the work our board has done toward being proactive in combatting the opioid crisis.  As a member of the Opioid Outreach and Education Committee, we have worked with the North Carolina Department of Justice on promoting and bringing awareness to the More Powerful NC website.  As a result of this work, pharmacists can now provide handouts to patients and place auxiliary labels on pain medications with information about the website.  Both tools are a great way to educate, protect and empower our patients when it comes to proper medication use and disposal.

Since being on the NCBOP, it has been my pleasure to work collaboratively with many pharmacists throughout North Carolina.  It has been rewarding to see how pharmacists play such a vital role in our health care system, as well as in the lives of their patients.  My ultimate goal continues to be serving the citizens of North Carolina and ensuring the well-being and safety of the public’s health. If elected I would be honored to continue to serve on the North Carolina Board of Pharmacy.

Ashley Duggins, PharmD
Vice President North Carolina Board of Pharmacy

Nicole Roseborough Eastman

Nicole Eastman Central 2019My name is Nicole Roseborough Eastman and I am a proud first generation Pharmacist who has lived in Mecklenburg County for the past 20 years. I received my Doctorate of Pharmacy Degree from Wingate University in its 3rd graduating class. As a North Carolina Pharmacist who is passionate about both maintaining the integrity of the profession along with the safety and welfare of the communities we serve,  I believe that I possess the qualities necessary to serve as an effective and valuable member of our BOP.

I bring to you a very unique mixture of pharmacy experiences that cover a wide spectrum of our numerous influences. Those include not only hospital, retail, closed door, compounding, and long term care, but also includes working for Toxicologists at Carolinas Poison Center and experience at the North Carolina Office of the Chief Medical Examiner’s Toxicology department. I also possess an extensive background in Pharmacy Operations at an executive level. I currently serve as a District Manager of Pharmacy and Retail Operations for Walgreens Boots Alliance. This mixture of experiences has allowed me to bring a healthy diversity of thought to discussions and decision making when it comes to our profession and the vast outcomes that we impact.

I am truly passionate about breaking down silos and building collaborative relationships throughout our numerous practice settings in order to progress in areas such as educating our patients about their health, combating the ever increasing opioid crises, and finding a way to truly serve and protect our communities. I believe that these relationships are a non-negotiable building block if we want to make an impact in our efforts to push back on decreasing reimbursements, attain provider status, and the many other challenges that we are facing.

Throughout my career, I have been fortunate to work for and alongside many amazing and influential pharmacy leaders and what has always been the driving force behind what made them great was the knowledge that everything that we do within our practices can have a positive or negative rippling effect on both our profession and on the communities that we serve and our intent should always be the positive. This is a guiding principle that I carry with me daily.

My professional affiliations include NCAP, APhA , NACDS RxIMPACT, and Rho Chi. I am active in volunteering within my community via a number of organizations to which I am a member. I have served in several community leadership positions and continue to seek out opportunities to give back and serve others.  I am a proud mother of 2 amazing little girls and wife to an equally amazing husband.

I humbly ask that you cast your ballot in my favor for the Central District Seat on the NCBOP.

Angela Smith

Angela Smith

Angela Smith, PharmD, DHA, MHA, BCPS, FACHE is an experienced pharmacy leader who has been practicing pharmacy for over 20 years in various roles; from small independent community pharmacies to large acute care hospitals.  She earned a Doctorate in Pharmacy degree from UNC Chapel Hill, is board certified in pharmacotherapy, holds a Masters in Healthcare Administration from Pfeiffer University, a Doctorate in Healthcare Administration and Leadership from the Medical University of South Carolina, and is a Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives.

It was while working as a pharmacy technician at Kinard Battleground Drug in Greensboro, Angela grew to love caring for patients, the art of pharmaceutical compounding, and to understand the trust and respect earned by the hometown pharmacist.  Although the doors of opportunity ultimately swung in a different direction for her career, it was Angela’s deep respect and passion for independent pharmacy, which led her to become a pharmacist.

Angela currently serves as the Chief Pharmacy Officer for the Chief Medical Office for Behavioral Health and IDD, within the NC Division of Health and Human Services, where she supports pharmacy functions across 14 state facilities.  Her work demands a wide range of clinical and operational skills, and has fostered professional growth locally and nationally.

Angela has been privileged to represent NC pharmacy in the national arena, serving as Secretary/Treasurer, Chairman-Elect, and then Chairman of the American College of Clinical Pharmacy (ACCP) Clinical Administration PRN.  She currently serves as an Advisory Board member for the Minnesota Multistate Contracting Alliance for Pharmacy, a national group purchasing organization for governmental agencies.  Angela also serves on the Duke Health Institutional Review Board as a community member and most recently has begun teaching pharmacology in the Duke University School of Nursing’s advanced practice nursing program.

Angela has been fortunate to have the overall quality of her work recognized several times throughout her career, having been a recipient of the WakeMed Circle of Excellence Award twice, in both 2006 and 2012, and the North Carolina Governor’s Award for Excellence in 2016 for her commitment to North Carolinians.   The Governor’s Award is the highest honor a state employee may receive for dedicated service to the state and citizens of North Carolina.  She finds great value and purpose in her current work, being able to improve the health of North Carolinians served.  The opportunity to further represent the pharmacists of North Carolina, through the Central District seat, would allow her to use these skills and experiences—from the beginnings of her career path in independent pharmacy to her present point in healthcare administration, policy, and pharmacy practice—to work both for and with North Carolina pharmacists and patients, to the benefit of all.

It would be my honor to serve the pharmacists of North Carolina in this capacity, ultimately ensuring the wellbeing and pharmaceutical safety of the citizens of North Carolina. This position would always receive 110% of my commitment, which has always been my guiding philosophy in all that I do.” - Angela Smith
